December 2024 Update

This post is part of our monthly supporter updates and reflects product development and thinking at the time it was written. Here is our latest update.

Hi all,

Happy holidays from Artificial Societies! Here's what's new this month:

We're Accepted into YC W25

We are accepted into Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch! James has already moved to SF to set things up ahead of the team's arrival.

Predicting Social Clusters

Social clusters matter enormously when predicting how messages spread. By targeting clusters, you can engineer a social tipping point. The challenge is that predicting individuals is straightforward, but predicting their networks is hard.

This month we built an AI engine that can predict emergent social clusters based only on profile data, without needing any information about how people are connected. We tested it on 300 LinkedIn profiles, and it predicted clusters significantly outperformed traditional segmentation based on location.

First Public Launch

We made our first public announcement on LinkedIn, naturally using simulations of our own networks to optimise our drafts. The posts received 20,000+ readerships in just 24 hours.

A special shout-out to our angel investors Raja at Google and Ali at DeepMind for their advice on building the prototype into a market-ready V1. As they reminded us: building more is easy, building less with precision is hard.

Brand Identity

We designed our first logo: a forward slash and a backslash in bold Arial /\. It's an abstraction of common coding operands, the Chinese character for "mankind" (人), and a bridge between divides. It also looks like an A. Simple, and fitting for Artificial Societies.

January 2025 Update

We started YC and immediately shipped Wave — a web app letting startups test fundraising pitches in a simulated network of 988 real VCs. By month-end, 372 users had run 1,000+ simulations.
